Alex Zaphiris MD, MS

Integrative Medicine, Primary Care + Addiction Medicine

360-MD is a premiere primary care, integrative and addiction medical practice in Mill Valley, CA, in Marin County, just north of San Francisco. We have joined forces with Whole Family MD in San Francisco and Dr. Alex Zaphiris sees patients in both Mill Valley and in San Francisco.

We offer comprehensive and a whole-patient approach to medical care. At 360-MD, patients have access to world-class Western medicine and the best of integrative medicine, including safe and effective alternative treatments, in a comfortable and professional setting.

This unique practice was created when founder, Alex Zaphiris, MD, MS, identified a need for comprehensive integrative medical care in Marin County. She found that many patients were seeking the guidance from both western MDs and alternative practitioners and so she created a practice where they can get both in one place. We help patients navigate the often confusing maze of conventional and alternative treatments to find the best approach for each patient's needs.

OUR MISSION:

Our mission is to transform patient's medical experience. By providing comprehensive, personalized medical care through effective evidence-based and integrative approaches, we prevent and treat disease and addiction so that our patients can live full, active, and healthy lives.

Hi, I’m Dr. Alex Zaphiris (Zuh-FEAR-is), MD MS. From working with patients over the last 20 years I have seen what works and what doesn’t work. When I started out, meds like buprenorphine to help with detox and recovery were not available yet. They made a big difference for a lot of people and saved a lot of lives.  It was the tip of the iceberg though. It bought time for people to recover but did not address any of the underlying issues that brought someone to addiction. Taking medication like buprenorphine instead of opiates is healing for the brain. Each day you don’t use opiates your brain recovers a little bit. But it is just the beginning.

To finally get back your life, and get off any substance, you require more. I should know, after working with many patients and seeing addiction in my own family, right?

When I started seeing more and more patients with opiate addiction, it became obvious that they also struggled with depression, anxiety and insomnia. When I applied other tools - diet, nutrition, and mindfulness -  that I had been using, they quickly started to feel much better. Cravings were less, they slept better, with less anxiety and depression.

This is the missing link that people don’t learn in rehab or in 12 step meetings and I have found that it makes a big difference in stacking the deck to prevent relapse. If your goal is to stay in recovery or eventually taper off suboxone, it’s essential.

You don’t have to keep struggling in silence or fearing relapse. Recovery is possible—and you can do it without relying on willpower alone.

I help people struggling with addiction and their loved ones who feel stuck and frustrated with their lack of progress in recovery. Despite trying mainstream solutions like detox, rehab, or 12-step programs, it still feels like something essential is missing. Through my work, I bring together the missing pieces to offer an integrated, whole-person approach that not only supports healing but helps prevent relapse so individuals and families can finally experience true freedom from addiction and lasting transformation.
